Promposal ~Chanyeol~ ❀
The song lyrics were shortened/modified but they still make sense :) trust my Chinese translation skills haha; enjoy! ~Admin C
You smoothed out the creases in your dress, tightened the thin straps, and adjusted the neckline gingerly.
You slipped your feet into a pair of dainty black heels and fixed your hair for the third time.
You lifted your arms and spun slowly, feeling the soft satin gliding over your legs. In the mirror, you saw a girl in a long, dark blue dress, daydreaming about going to prom.
You twirled to a stop and stood still, facing the mirror. Stepping closer until you could see the faint blue eyeshadow on your eyelids, you observed yourself silently.
"Prom, huh?" You asked your reflection, sighing as you started to loosen the satin bow on your back. "Well, there’s still one more week…"
You undid the straps and slipped out of the dress, the smooth texture gliding over your skin like water.
"I’ll be really sad if I have to return this beautiful dress." You sighed again, hoping vigorously that someone would ask you to prom.
Particularly one boy.
And if he did, you’d be the happiest girl on earth.
You closed your locker to find Chanyeol beaming down at you.
The corners of your own mouth lifted when you saw his wide grin. His happiness was truly contagious.
"Hi, Chanyeol," you replied, mirroring his grin. "How’s it going?"
He accompanied you through the hallway, his tall build shielding you from countless other students.
"It’s great," he nodded, glancing sideways at you. "But things are so hectic now that prom’s almost here."
Your smile fell slightly at the mention of prom, and you looked down at your shoes, avoiding his eyes.
"Yeah, it really is," you agreed. "I’m sure the dance will be amazing, though. Everyone’s working so hard on the preparations."
"I know! I can’t wait. Aren’t you excited?" Chanyeol said cheerfully, grinning even wider.
"Y-yeah," you stuttured, then quickly covered it with a laugh. "Of course. I’m super excited."
…super excited to spend it alone…
Chanyeol had sounded so enthusiastic that you were almost certain he had a date already.
You wanted to cry out of despair. Not only was the boy you liked already taken, the week was almost over and not a single other guy had asked you to prom yet.
Tomorrow was Friday, and Saturday night was the grand event.
And you would be alone.
"Well, see you tomorrow, _______!" Chanyeol bounded off, almost radiating ecstasy. You had never seen him so excited over something before.
She must be a really amazing girl…
You couldn’t remember the last time you had felt so depressed. All the excited chattering and giggling in the hallways passed through your ears like knives.
For the rest of the day, you trudged from one class to the other lifelessly, thinking of the beautiful dress that you would be returning tonight.
"Hey, hey, why so glum? Eat your food, ______, or I’ll eat it for you!" Your friend nudged your jokingly at the cafeteria table.
You picked absently at your sandwich, sighing sadly.
"Sure, go ahead, I’m not really hungry." You pushed the tray over to your friend.
She looked at you in surprise and concern, ignoring the sandwich. You offered her a weak smile, then leaned your elbows on the table and rested your chin in your hands.
"Why are you so sad? Aren’t you excited for prom?"
You sighed again, sagging in your seat. “Yeah, I guess I would be, if someone had asked me to it.”
Your friend’s eyes widened in disbelief, and she gasped incredulously, “What?! I thought you were already asked by Ch—”
"HEY, YOU TWO!" A familiar voice shouted loudly from behind you, and you saw your friend struggle under the hands that had suddenly covered her mouth.
You turned to see Baekhyun standing behind your friend—who was also his girlfriend—and grinning down at you two. His hands were still tight over her mouth, but she finally pried it off.
"Baek, what the hell?" Your friend asked, lifting her eyebrows as she turned to face the boy.
He quickly leaned down and whispered in her ears, and after a while she nodded, breaking into a smile. He pecked her cheeks before going back to his friends.
Your heart ached when you saw their intimacy, and it ached even more when you remembered that you didn’t have a person who you could do those things with.
Not to mention a boyfriend, you couldn’t even find a date for one single night. The school day was still not over, but you had already given up. There was no way anyone would ask you.
"Hey, _______? I’m going over to Baekhyun for a little bit, I’ll be back soon, okay?" Your friend said, getting up.
You nodded, not moving from your position. You felt like all the energy and spirit had drained out of you.
"Oh, I have something I have to tell Kai," your other friend said as she got up as well.
Mmhm, and I have something I want to say to my imaginary date.
Your fourth friend stood and took the empty trays and your full one, flashing you a smile before leaving. You frowned and lifted your chin off your hands, turning around to look at them. The table was now empty and you were sitting there alone.
Wow, way to amplify the loneliness that I’ve already been feeling for the past week. If I had a boyfriend, I could go over there and join them as well. Also, why does it feel like everyone in the room is suddenly all looking at me?
You shifted in your seat uncomfortably, glancing around to realize that indeed, everyone’s eyes were now trained on you—that one girl sitting alone at the table in the middle of the cafeteria.
You were about to get up and leave when suddenly the cafeteria doors opened and a tall boy with a guitar case in his hands walked straight toward you.
The noises in the room suddenly quieted down, and now even the students in the back corners were craning their necks to see you.
You stayed frozen on the bench as Chanyeol stepped up and sat on the table in front of you, taking out his guitar. He propped it on his thigh and finally looked down at you, a faint blush grazing his cheeks. His eyes never left your face as his fingers danced over the guitar strings and a soft melody drifted through the cafeteria.
Lightly kissing your X, a kiss
Tightly hugging your O, a hug
The words I want to say,
perhaps you know them
My heart is deep, deeper than the sea
I want to say this phrase to you, “be with me”
By my side, happiness like a static shock
Touching you, the warmth of bliss
Just your smile can make me faint
It’s an easy question, Yes or No
So just tell me, is it X or O?
Don’t wait anymore, the passing days are wasted
Should I muster up my courage and send these words to you
Like writing a password, an incoherent letter
With just these words, it’s not easy to capture you
But I am determined to do so
Missing your XO, you’re my only one
For your XO, please accept me
X O X O
Baby, you and me
The song ended, but Chanyeol’s deep voice and the soft notes from the guitar still echoed faintly in the cafeteria.
You chest was so constricted, and your lungs so empty of air that you literally felt like a stone statue. The rest of the students were frozen with awe as well.
Your mouth opened and closed, but no words came out. You were so overwhelmed with shock and happiness and millions of other emotions that you couldn’t settle on an expression.
Chanyeol dangled his arms over the guitar and leaned closer toward you, gazing straight into your eyes. You held your breath, not wanting to get your hopes up but couldn’t help doing so.
”________, will you go prom with me?” He asked in a low voice, but you both knew that the entire cafeteria could hear him. He looked at you nervously, as if suddenly afraid that you would turn him down.
When reality finally hit you, you blinked out of your daze and jumped up, throwing your arms around him.
"Yes, yes, yes! Yes, oh my god, yes! I would love to go with you, Chanyeol, I would love to,” you said breathlessly, smiling so wide that your face was starting to hurt.
You felt him sigh in relief, then returning your embrace, holding you tightly.
"Thank you for doing this. Thank you so, so much. The song was amazing. You’re amazing. I can’t even describe how happy I am right now,” you said it all in one breath, meaning every single word. “Thank you, Chanyeol,” you said again, “thank you for asking me.”
He laughed and leaned back to face you, bringing his hand up to caress your cheek. “You’re so cute, ________.”
You blushed when your heard the rest of the boys cheering, and the other students clapping for the successful prom ask.
D.O. came over with an arm around his girlfriend, rolling his eyes at you two.
”_______, you wouldn’t believe how much he prepared for this. He literally dragged me to the music room after school every single day to help him with the song.”
"Yeah," Lay nodded, coming over as well. "He made me practice the guitar arrangement with him so often, I could probably play it in my sleep now."
Chanyeol laughed; his heart was filled with gratitude toward his friends.
"You couldn’t have just asked her like a normal person?" Baekhyun joked.
Chanyeol shook his head, nuzzling your cheek. “No way, she’s too special for such a lame ask.”
Your friend nudged Baekhyun and pouted. “Hear that, Baekhyun? Why didn’t you serenade me in front of the whole school? This is about the most romantic thing a guy can do.”
Baekhyun was about to defend himself when Tao ran over and plopped onto the table beside Chanyeol, whining loudly.
”_______, hyung is so mean! He told every single guy at school that you were off limits for prom asking, and he even told me to beat up anyone who dared to ask you! I don’t like beating up people, but I had punch three guys over the past week because they were going to ignore Chanyeol’s warning and ask you anyway. Hyung is really scary!” Tao cried.
You looked from him to Chanyeol incredulously, and he shrugged shamelessly, biting his lip.
"There was no way I was going to let you go with someone else," he said, not feeling sorry at all.
You laughed, though you felt bad for the three guys who had had a taste of Tao’s wushu.
"I see, so that’s why no one asked me," you mused. "Oh, Chanyeol, such a bully."
"Hey! I wasn’t ready with the song, but I knew that other guys were bound to ask you before then." Chanyeol defended himself, then turned to pat Tao’s back. "Sorry, bro, you won’t have to do this again."
Heads turned when the cafeteria doors opened again, but this time there were two boys who walked in, carrying a giant bouquet of flowers between them.
"Oh! It’s here," Chanyeol said happily as he took the flowers from Xiumin and Luhan and presented it to you.
You threw your head back and laughed, wondering where in the world he had gotten such a large bouquet. You hugged the flowers to your chest and inhaled their fragrance, grinning up at Chanyeol.
Today had to be the best day ever.
"I’ll see you at prom then, ______," Chanyeol said, already imagining how gorgeous you would look in your dress that night.
"Can’t wait," you replied, this time truly meaning it.
